Founded in 1883, Sidwell Friends School is a PK-12, co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC and Bethesda, MD.
Sidwell Friends School offers a challenging academic experience in a warm, supportive environment. We seek students who demonstrate the potential to meet high academic and personal standards and contribute to the vitality of the School. Because we believe that students learn from each other, it is central to our philosophy that the student body be coeducational and include diverse economic, cultural, and racial backgrounds, as well as a variety of interests and talents.
For the 2008-2009 academic year, 1,098 students (552 boys and 546 girls) are enrolled. Thirty nine percent of the student body are students of color. Twenty-two percent of the student body receive almost $5 million of need-based financial assistance.

Washington International School

PreK - 12th grade
Washington International School (WIS), a co-educational day school, offers authorized IB programs to all students, from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The internationally-focused curriculum includes English and at least one other language, world history, geography, mathematics, sciences, fine arts, information technology, and physical education. Students have the chance to join in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including athletic teams, plays and musicals, clubs and student publications.
WIS is known for its strong language instruction. From Kindergarten through Grade 5 the students follow a dual language program, with a half day of English instruction and the other half day in French, Spanish or Dutch. Language studies continue as individual courses beginning in Grade 6, when students also have the option to study IB Chinese or a native language as their second language. Beginning in Grade 9, students may also elect a third language.
The 890 students and their parents represent some 90 countries. Virtually all graduates go on to study at internationally recognized universities both within the U.S. and abroad. Faculty members represent 28 countries and bring teaching experience from around the world; 60% have earned advanced degrees and their average length of stay is ten years.
