Third Annual Blogging for LGBT Families Day Unites Bloggers in Support of LGBT Families

June 2, 2008 is the third annual Blogging for LGBT Families Day, when bloggers of all sexual orientations and gender identities come together and write in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) families. The event, developed by LGBT-parenting site Mombian and sponsored by the Family Equality Council, aims to raise awareness of LGBT families, their diverse configurations and how current prejudices and legal discrimination have a negative impact on their lives and children. Last year, over 150 bloggers took part. The event is held each year at the start of June, between Mother's Day and Father's Day, in order to honor both equally, but also to convey that not all families fit into the traditional structure of one mother and one father. June is also Gay Pride Month, making it doubly appropriate.

"In the past two years, we've seen a wonderful mix of participants," says Dana Rudolph, founder and publisher of Mombian. "They included lesbian moms, gay dads, transgender parents, adult children of LGBT parents, LGBT individuals without children, and non-LGBT allies. Some bloggers told stories about their paths to parenthood, or tales about their children; some wrote about having LGBT parents, other relatives, or friends; others discussed current political events; and several spoke of why their faith compels them to support LGBT rights. Many affirmed that love was the defining characteristic of a family. I have no doubt this year's entries will be even more diverse and compelling." Jennifer Chrisler, Executive Director of the Family Equality Council, adds "Blogging is an increasingly important tool for LGBT visibility, community connection and activism. Blogging for LGBT Families Day is a great way for us to exchange stories and perspectives with each other and the world. By doing so, we can share common ground and respect our differences. Together, we can achieve our vision of equality for all diverse families." To participate, a blogger should write at his or her own blog on a topic related to LGBT families on or before June 2, 2008, then leave a comment at www.mombian.com, or send an e-mail to lgbtfamilies@mombian.com with the link to the post. Any blogger who supports LGBT families is welcome to contribute a post, whether they are LGBT or not, parents or not.

Mombian will showcase the full list of participants on June 2, 2008.

For more about the event, visit: www.mombian.com  and click the "Blogging for LGBT Families" banner.
