Below is an email from
Massachusett's photographer Piper Jo Nevins describing her
excitement of taking photos of the first couples to marry. |

Gay marriage is now legal in
Massachussetts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Went to the Cambridge Courthouse tonight where hundreds were
gathered to witness history in the making. Couples waited for
hours, lining up to be able to get in to get their marriage
applications. One couple were on the steps for over 24 hours to be
the very first couple issued a marriage application!!!!
SWAT teams were there. They had gotten word that there were going
to be a lot of protestors. There were some.....but not the many
they were expecting. But they were actually amazing.....very
decent. They made a double line all the way up to the Courthouse
door and created a pathway for couples to come and go.
When couples went in, the crowd roared, cheering them on. The
crowd counted down to midnight.....the magic hour.....marriage
applications could now be legally handed out. Then couples,
applications in hand, started coming out of the Courthouse, some
with their children. The crowd roared with cheers of
congratulations....rice was thrown.....bubbles filled the air. It
was absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!
Enjoy a few photos of history as it was made tonight.
