K-8th grade
In 1989, the six founding parents collaborated on a unique project which sought to introduce child-centered education into a traditional school program. GreenMount opened in September 1993, as a one-room schoolhouse with 26 students in grades one through six. Currently, we serve 80 students in a multi-age setting in grades K-8.
We see our school as a diverse community where children are given the space and time to learn and the encouragement to succeed. Students develop academic, behavioral, and personal skills that enable to thrive in different environments. The curriculum is connected to or grounded in real life experiences. It is creative, multicultural, community-based, and centered on experiential learning through thematic curricula.
The GreenMount School is an independent school where students learn to be learners applying knowledge and skills to authentic tasks. Parents are true partners in the learning experience, contributing on a daily basis to the success of the entire school community. Teachers collaborate as a learning community to provide unique, authentic learning experiences for students.

K - 12th grade
McLean School of Maryland (www.mcleanschool.org), an independent, co-educational, K-12 day school proudly serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area for over 50 years.
Founded in 1954, McLean today is a kindergarten through grade 12 independent school. Our mission has always been to serve a broad range of students including those with learning issues. To advance the school's original vision, we expanded our kindergarten through grade 9 school, added the upper secondary grades, and graduated our first senior class in 2003.
McLean makes education accessible, stimulating and meaningful for a broad range of learners. Our students flourish because McLean responds to students' distinct learning profiles. McLean prepares students intellectually and socially by encouraging self-advocacy and building self-confidence. Our students succeed because they learn how to learn.

9 - 12th grade
The Nora School is a progressive, coeducational, college preparatory day school serving 60 students in Grades 9-12. Its mission is to nurture and empower bright students who have not realized their potential in larger, more traditional school settings. The school offers a challenging curriculum in an environment designed to develop and maintain a just community, thoughtful decision-making, a high level of discourse, and attention to individual needs and concerns. At all levels, students study the traditional disciplines - English, social studies, mathematics, science, and foreign language - via thematic, engaging approaches.
Small class size, dedicated teachers and attention to the individual fosters self advocacy and scholastic confidence in a collaborative setting. Juniors and seniors participate in a retreat program for college readiness.
Situated in downtown Silver Spring, MD, The Nora School makes use of the resources available in the metropolitan Washington DC area with field trips, guest speakers and other projects that bring current events into the classroom and the students into the world.
