The Wheeler School is a Nursery - Grade 12, coed, independent day school located on the East Side of Providence, Rhode Island.
Wheeler was founded in 1889 by Mary Colman Wheeler, an American Impressionist artist and educator born in Concord, Massachusetts, and raised among the Transcendentalists. Originally an international boarding school for girls named The Mary C. Wheeler School, Wheeler became a coed, day school in the mid-1970s and was officially renamed The Wheeler School. The school today has approximately 3700 alumni and 800 students with 200 faculty and staff. In addition to its main campus in Providence, the School has a 120-acre Farm facility with an athletics complex, Sixth Grade Farm Program, Raku kiln, summer camp, and areas for academic programs, conferences and environmental research.
