A couple of quick tips for the pre and post adoptive parent from our current November-December issue:
• If you are struggling to complete the adoption process because of a financial obstacle, consider applying for an adoption assistance grant from Gift of Adoption. Gift of Adoption fills the void that separates child from family by providing the last necessary funds to qualified families who need financial assistance. Gift of Adoption is the largest provider of adoption grants given without regard to sexual orientation.

• If your adoption worker has limited knowledge about gay adoption and parenting, ask for a referral to a professional who has this expertise.
• Be open and forthright about your sexual orientation with the adoption worker.
• Discuss how the information will be used in the home study report.
