Product Description

Considering family building through assisted reproduction for a biological child? Our 18th annual issue includes a directory of LGBT friendly assisted reproduction companies to help build your family. In this issue meet Dr. Daniel Kaser an obstetrician and gynecologist with Reproductive Medicine Associates of New Jersey, and member of the LGBT community. Nora Bolger, an RN with Reproductive Medicine Associates of Connecticut informs readers of the different laws across the country regarding surrogacy.

In this issue, two families with biological children through assisted reproduction write about bolstering legal protections for their family by completing second parent adoptions. Abigail Mnookin writes, “After the DOMA ruling, some wondered if this second-parent adoption was still necessary. But federal recognition of our same-sex marriage doesn’t provide equal protection throughout the country.” David Hu writes, “…in an effort to bolster legal protections for our kids, we each completed second parent adoptions of the twin set to which we are not biologically related.”

In this issue Deadra Albrecht-Frasch writes about how she wishes people would not define her children by how she dresses them. And featured is Alison Polizzi’s blog entry where she says, “…being gay didn't make me ‘as good as’ straight parents. Being gay made me an exceptional parent.” Also in this issue, Polizzi interviews Jing and Monica Contreras-Paraoan, a Sacramento, California couple that helps others in the LGBT community with their family vlog.

This issue also includes our 18th annual LGBT friendly summer camps and programs resource directory (also in our January-February issue) that also includes summer study abroad and nature treks. In addition to the directory, learn about New York City’s The Cathedral School STEAM summer program and Camp Highlight, a summer camp in Pennsylvania designed specifically for children and teens with LGBTQ parents.

Spring is just around the corner so now is a good time to think about making travel plans with the family. In this issue is a list of great vacation activity ideas in New York State for family members of all ages. Also included is a family travel piece by Jiana Eisenberg, an adult child of lesbians, as she reflects back on her vacation to Niagara Falls with her two moms.

Finally, Flavia Francesquini writes a humorous piece about researching a Christian dating web site. She writes, “I’ll start by saying that I have nothing against Christians in general, although I do hate to be told I’m going to hell! In their defense I will only say that, like the rest of us, they are not all the same and it would be unenlightened of me to suggest that. But this is not a debate on Christianity, it’s not even about my religious views. This is about my experience as a spy of sorts. A lesbian set lose in the sacred virtual space of those looking to connect with like minded god-fearing potential mates.” 56 pages, 12.5 mb digital file, buy now.
