Product Description
Welcome to our milestone 20th anniversary issue! We are excited to have Karamo Brown of the hit show Queer Eye gracing our cover and you’ll be interested to read what he has to say! Also for this landmark issue we’ve put together 15 facts about Gay Parent Magazine; they include attributes and achievements from our beginning to the present day. Since we’re looking back at our two decades of publishing we’re also revisiting with our first cover family, the Bidwell Dang family of Hawaii.
November is National Adoption Month and in addition to the Bidwell Dang family we're featuring other families that have built their family through adoption, Byron Moya and Anthony Burge of California, and Kelly Vielmo and Jack Montgomery of Washington DC. Before he met Anthony, Byron was already raising twin daughters and was in the process of adopting a son with his ex. Then Byron’s relationship ended, he met Anthony and they adopted two more children earlier this year. Kelly Vielmo is a board member of the LGBTQ parent support group Rainbow Families in Washington DC. In this article meet his husband Jack and their three children adopted from DC’s Child and Family Services. Also, included in this issue is a list of LGBTQ friendly agencies that can assist with building your family through adoption and foster care.
Another family story is Bianca and Imani of Texas. Bianca is a mother of a young son and she met Imani through friends. They’ve been together since Bianca’s birthday July 2013 and hope to get tie the knot. But under the current White House administration they are worried they may not be able to legally wed.
In this issue we feature another installment of our parenting and relationship advice column, No Drama Mama by Flavia Francesquini. Flavia gives advice to a woman that is seeking advice for her partner’s daughter’s tantrums. Also in this issue read about a few of our advertisers, The Waldorf School of DuPage, Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, and Building Families Inc.
Like each September-October issue, our November-December issue also features a directory of LGBTQ friendly independent schools. In this issue they are located in CA, CT, DC, FL, IL, IN, IA, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NY, PA, RI, TX, VA, and WA. Included are day and boarding schools, schools for just boys or just girls, schools for children with learning challenges and multilingual schools. Looking for a LGBTQ friendly independent school for your child in one of these areas? Then this is the issue for you.
