Product Description

On this issue’s cover are Lauren and Wendy Nolan-Sellers of Pennsylvania. They have an interior design business together (after Lauren watched many hours of HGTV) and are also raising two young children. Is the couple able to work together harmoniously while also being life partners?

Especially in our current political climate, as LGBTQ parents it’s important to know about organizations in place that support and empower us. In this issue are articles on the Pop Luck Club and Our Family Coalition, both located in California. Meet John Ireland, chair of the board of directors for the Pop Luck Club and his family of four children. Says Ireland, “The group’s name is a play on words about the ongoing 'potluck' brunches that are served at those meetings. “We try to impress each other with our best casseroles.” Renata Moreira is the executive director of Our Family Coalition. Moreira is raising a young daughter with her ex while leading one of the country’s best organizations for LGBTQ families. In this issue find out more about Ireland and Moreira and their organizations to support our families.

In “A Child's Right to a Non-Biological Parent,” Karen Partanen would not have guessed her ex would not grant her legal rights of their children. Says Partanen, "She said she was the only parent, and they would only live with her.” This is Partanen’s story about her legal right as a parent to her two young children.

As our children go to school in the fall, LGBTQ parents worry about their child being bullied. In this issue is an article on HRC’s Welcoming School’s Program offering important tools to make your child’s school experience safer. Articles in this issue also include two LGBTQ friendly independent schools: Stratford School in California and Oakwood Friends School in New York. Also included is a list of new books for young children, teens, and adults.

Lastly, this is our 21st annual issue listing over 150 independent schools located in AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, IL, IN, MD, MA, MI, MN, NJ, NY, PA, RI, TX, VA, and WA.
