Soundview School

Would your child benefit from an ethical, rigorous, and compassionate learning environment? Do you believe that parents and teachers should come together to make sure children grow as students and as individuals? Soundview School may be of interest to you.

Soundview School is an independent, International Baccalaureate World School in Lynnwood, Washington (population 38,273). It is situated 17 miles north of Seattle. The school enjoys a 3+ acre campus, one-third of which is reserved for forest. Currently, Soundview has a student body of 85. The faculty to student ratio is 8:1.

Soundview educates preschool through 8th grade students. The Soundview community is built on close, personal relationships between students, families, and teachers. Students learn in flexible, multi-age classrooms that provide personalized learning experiences.

• 100% of our curriculum exceeds State of Washington standards.
• 100% of our students take advanced courses in math.
• 100% of our fifth- through eighth graders participate in band.
• Science, technology, engineering, art, and math are incorporated at all levels of learning.

“My eyes light up when I see ‘International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme’ on a transcript. Students who apply to Michigan State University with IB credentials are assumed to be mature, curious, and creative." Michigan State University, Pamela Horne, Assistant to the Provost for Enrollment and Director of Admissions

“The structure of the Soundview School and the International Baccalaureate approach really allow everyone in the space to have open honest curious conversations where it’s not about finding solutions, but about identifying what is possible. I really wish that I could have had that environment when I was growing up.” Cole Popsinger, Soundview parent

Soundview and the International Baccalaureate base their educational approach on five core beliefs:

International Mindedness
Open-mindedness and respect for all people and perspectives is a central educational outcome.

Social Justice
Our curriculum and community-based activities help our students develop an understanding of the experiences and needs of others and the skills to take action.

Environmental Sustainability
In the classroom, Soundview forest, and garden we connect students to Earth's resources and let them find out for themselves how those resources can be nourished and preserved for future generations.
Design Thinking
Incorporating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math at every step, design thinking enables creative solutions to complex problems. Students use the design cycle to solve a range of problems from backpack bowling in the hallway to welcoming Syrian refugee families to our area.

Access to an independent school education is a struggle for many families. We are addressing that issue directly. Beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, we have lowered our tuition for all our students so that more families can have access to the Soundview experience.

What does it cost to attend Soundview?

The 2020-2021 tuition for Early Childhood students is $11,450 and $13,750 for kindergarten through 5th grade. Middle School tuition is $14,850. Tuition includes all school materials, supplies, and field trips. Middle School students are asked to provide their own portable device, such as a Chromebook or laptop, and a band instrument. Limited financial aid is available.

Access is not only a matter of finances.

Let’s be clear: Soundview School admits students of any race, color, national origin, or ethnic origin. Soundview does not discriminate on the basis of sex, gender, age, religion, handicap, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Every child is a leader, empowered to make a positive difference. We honor how children really learn by encouraging curiosity, risk-taking, creation, and reflection. We do all of this by implementing the International Baccalaureate World School model.
